    • richard TEMPLE Richard Temple founded the Temple Gallery in 1959. He has sold icons to the British Museum, the Musée du Louvre in Paris, the Timken Art Gallery in San Diego, California and the Museum of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in Moscow. He advised the collector Eric Bradley, whose icons passed into the Museum of the Menil Foundation in Houston, Texas, and he formed the collection of the late Mrs John D. Rockefeller III. His books include Icons and the Mystical Origins of Christianity (Element Books, 1990, 1992, Luzac Oriental, 2001) and ICONS Divine Beauty, (Saqi Books, 2004).

    • Lucy Temple Lucy joined the gallery in 2009, she oversees logistics and the packing department. Apart from her work at the gallery, she is also a successful artist. She was taught by Keith Critchlow at the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts where she completed her MA. She specialises in painting patterns mostly from ancient Islamic design, bringing to them her unique sense of colour.

      Lucy joined the gallery in 2009, she oversees logistics and the packing department. Apart from her work at the gallery, she is also a successful artist.

       

      She was taught by Keith Critchlow at the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts where she completed her MA. She specialises in painting patterns mostly from ancient Islamic design, bringing to them her unique sense of colour.

    • Benjamin Shearar After a degree in Art History and French from the University of St Andrews and his MA in Byzantine art from the Courtauld, he joined the gallery in 2020. Ben was initially the part-time research assistant for two years before becoming the full-time manager of the gallery in 2022.

    • Jo Elford Following her degree in History of Art from the University of East Anglia and a number of years as a journalist on local newspapers Jo worked for various auction houses and dealers before joining the Temple Gallery back in 2003. After re-locating from London to East Sussex in 2022 she now comes in to the gallery two days each week and spends the rest of her time building up her business as a self-employed upholsterer from her studio in Burwash.
